“ As a Support Coordinator or Case Manager, it is difficult to find workers or therapists with the character and skills to work with complex clients. My client, “T”, lives an isolated life, experiencing the stigma of mental health and the restrictions of the psychiatric system. In a short time, Rich has been able to build trust and rapport with “T”, supporting him to talk openly about his challenges and feel hope that he can build the skills to meet his challenges. To hear this from “T” also gives me hope that we can achieve a supported and inclusive community. I would recommend Rich as someone who’s values and skills enable effective peer support and therapeutic service.”
Rich Mclean is a triumphant example of survival and mental health recovery. He has a lived experience of ‘psychosis’ (or non-ordinary reality) and other mental health challenges, but despite this, he has used his lived experience to become a fierce advocate for those with mental health issues and celebrates neurodiversity. He is also an artist, teacher, and is currently finishing his Doctor of Philosophy.
Rich utilises his skills as a creative person and someone who has a lived experience of mental health challenges and the mental health system to provide others with compassionate and meaningful peer support, life coaching, creative visualisation aimed at providing measurable outcomes and of course advocacy.
He works with self funded NDIS participants within the local Footscray/Melbourne area with mental health challenges who want to not only survive and recover but also to thrive. Rich works through a spiritual, secular and holistic lens which employs his breadth of experience in mental health advocacy and creative expression as a methodology towards and facilitating wellbeing, and happiness.
Unlike psychologists and psychiatrists, Rich's aim is utilising the healer archetype within and co-creating reality and learning both ways; in order that you overcome adversity in being acknowledged in your feelings experiences & life and so be valued.
It is my hope that I will not have to see you long term!
I am a person that values freedom, creativity and despite inevitable suffering, and the deficient realities, that happiness is possible for all.
I believe that recovery from mental health issues is not only possible but probable, with the right support for everyone.
I believe through empowering the self through art, talking, walking and conversation that we can become self-actualised and not just survive but thrive, no matter who we are or the difficulties we face.
